Martha is contemplating her imminent sixteenth birthday when her estranged dad (Nick) turns up with a birthday present: tickets to the epic music festival Glorious. Not bad, Martha thinks, until Nick reveals that he plans to come along. Her mum (Louisa) isn't at all keen on the idea, knowing Nick as she does. After some negotiation, Louisa relents so long as they take Martha's younger brother (Tom) and the dependable au pair (Daphnee). And Martha succeeds in bringing her anarchist best friend (Caitlin) along too. But Nick soon finds his limited parenting skills aren't quite up to the job. First his daughter and her friend have gone AWOL, then his au pair accidentally takes an hallucinogenic drink and finally, having now lost all three kids under his charge, Nick manages to get himself ejected from the festival. Only as he sits on a country bus, desperately attempting to get back to the festival site, does he reflect that his ex- wife was right: perhaps it is time he ought to grow up.

The countess is married, and the ghosts are still in the Spessart. Her husband becomes an astronaut and the story involved time travelling and space travelling starts.
